cataracts and nutrition

  https://www.earthclinic.com/cures/cataracts.html

"earthclinic.com", for cataracts recommends...

~ Alpha Lipoic Acid, claiming that, "Research" suggests that alpha lipoic acid, an intensive antioxidant, is an effective remedy for cataracts...and
~ Lutein: a carotenoid and a major component of the orange and yellow pigment found in a variety of fruits and vegetables. "Research" emphasizes the importance of lutein for protecting against cataracts and other degenerative eye diseases.. and then
~ Phytonutrients, Phytonutrients are plant chemicals that promote healthy cell growth and development - i.e. nutrients.. may be helpful

I don't know if we will do better than this on-line... but there's a start

wikisays: ... Lipoic acid (LA), also known as a-lipoic acid and alpha lipoic acid (ALA) and thioctic acid is an organosulfur compound derived from octanoic acid. ALA is made in animals normally, and is essential for aerobic metabolism. It is also manufactured and is available as a dietary supplement in some countries where it is marketed as an antioxidant, and is available as a pharmaceutical drug in other countries

Lipoic acid is present in almost all foods, but slightly more so in kidney, heart, liver, spinach, broccoli, and yeast extract.

The mechanism and action of lipoic acid when supplied externally to an organism is controversial. Lipoic acid in a cell seems primarily to induce the oxidative stress response rather than directly scavenge free radicals.
