Arthritis
This is a paper in composition. I hope to have a substantial portion up and ready soon... meanwhile... There are many types of arthritis. Osteoarthritis (OA), also known as degenerative arthritis is the most common. The occurences of OA is discussed at some length in the introduction to a research proposal to study the management of OA with nutrition which I was recently working on The treatment of OA and Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA) with niacinamide is of great interest.

Mobilization and Healing: nowadays a do a lot of gentle mobilization with arthritic joints. I use a technique I call "fascilitated and spontaneous mobilization" which evolved out of CranioSacral and Fekldenkrais Therapies, and seems to offer a lot of benefit to most patients..

Acupuncture: I have found acupuncture valuable in the treatment of OA and RA. Local and systemic points are used (e.g. Sp 10 has anti-inflammatory properties and is often needled as part of an arthritis "formula". Needles are he most effective way of stimulating acupuncture points but not necessarily the most convenient. If you got hold of a "laser pointer" - they are selling them in variety stores in Toronto for $20 ] - you might try "laser acupuncture".

TNS, transcutanious nerve stimulation, which employs small electrical devises that may be used at home can be substituted for acupuncture.) MASC: "magnetic acupuncture suction cups" are an excellent needle substitute
that you can use at home

Dietary prescriptions for arthritis are numerous... Patients with OA may benefit from avoidance of animal products and in particular dairy products. Patients with RA may benefit by avoiding the "nightshade family" (tomatoes, potatoes, peppers, egg plant...) Supplements: Glucosamine sulphate may be beneficial in arthritis. I would recommend homeopathic Ruta 6C to be taken along with the glucosamine. MSM also appears to be very valuable in arthritis. Links: see also, in "Ask the Doctor", Rheumatoid Arthritis
