My meditation teacher mentioned once that when he was at a zen temple meditating for six months 20 hours a day, no glass in the windows, the snow blowing in the hall in the winter, the Roshi had all the monks/students rotate their toes every day, clockwise and anticlockwise, and nobody got ill! It was a panacea. | as
the feet go, so goes the body.

I
have recently been working with a patient with terribly painful feet and along
with the other mobilizations and therapeutic techniques I rotated his toes, while
gripping, with the other hand, the metatarsal rays and pulsing these, manipulating
these and – and we are getting wonderful results. | except: I'm not sure how seriously I take this anymore. I'm not doing much toe twerling. My "foottoning" lasted just a short while.
So I'm working more and more with the feet, mobilizing them in this and other manners, and massaging and thinking about reflexology and the mobilization work of Dr. Mahlon William Locke. Locke used to see up to a thousand people a day and mobilize their feet as a treatment for rheumatism! |
| Reflexology Reflexologists work the soles of the feet (and hands) to tone the whole body. The body is in some sense mapped on the extermities (I've written about this at some length offering a possible neuro-embryological explanation of reflexology). |
What
to call it, if indeed it needs dignifying with a name. But why not? How about
"foot toning"? Or "foottoning" ("Copyright that!")
|
My
girl friend, a foot massage addict, says don't forget to mention the pleasure
involved in foottoning. | There's another aspect to reflexology, so the Princess said. There can be hard "crystaline" deposites in the palms and soles, (associated with problems in the cooresponding organs) and the reflexologist works these out, breaks them up to clear them.

So, world, I've got a new technique...:
there's a new panacea in town. P.S. I'm going to post do-it-yourself instructions momentarily. |

Seriously, the whole body is connect (we'll talk about that more deeply in discussing "tensegrity" - soon). Life is movement. Death is immobility. So mobilizing, retaining good flexibility, pliability, is an essential part of health, and what better place to start then the feet? | treat
