 The Crimson Rose

chased the crimson rose behind the barn
amid the mud and mayweed
rusted machinery left to dream
the silo gaunt looked on

chased the crimson rose behind the railway line
half cobbled streets
trees fractured
bare
but you are not there
nor at the factory gate

chased the crimson rose
behind the schoolyard
milk bottle tops
cast away wrappers
long gone chocolate bars devoured and divine

the crimson rose
the thread of your lips
and my long lost kiss

missed
