Codger's Songs

i have to paint some words
down the side of this image of
Emily Sue
who's long overdue
the latest
the brightest
the cutest Babbu

Babbu
Babbu it's hard to sing tonight
Babbu it's raining
No night stars
just my empty table
alone in the café's babble Babbu
wondering if you are
my Babbu
Babbu I know you
You are the smile
by my side

 you said you'd be here
that's why I came
alone again
bitter as the winter city
slush in my boot

I guess I'd pretend
I was happy as a lark
if you walked in
I'd smile like an ancient gigolo

  someday I'll meet a friend
someday I'll make love again
I don't know who
I don't know when
it could be you
but then again
oops

when my baby was my baby
the world was new
the fish were all jumping
and the sky was blue
then time got rusty
my baby got bored
and now my baby
ain't my baby no more

the new Babbu
well she's so fine
the new Babbu
she's mine all mine
she's my sugar
in the pantry
she's my honey
in the hall
well the new Babbu
she just likes to ball

the new Babbu is much deeper
would sure be a keeper
would be beyond
incalculable

my old Babbu was so right
I'm so ready
but the new Babbu is totally improbable
so I'll just be grandpa

hush

hush

hush

whisper
