this morning Siobhan’s dog
caught a squirrel
but lacked the wit
to kill it
minutes lost chasing the lurcher
then there it lay
unable to move
breathing
I finished it
as heart demanded
now what’s there to ease my pain
the new client who didn’t arrive

perhaps it’s just
a consequence of is-ness
of one and one being two
and the cosmic numbers
they are just
what numbers do
CODA
the very next day
(working on “…Ezra’s creed”)
I realized that in the existent (the actual) 1+1≥2
so cosmic numbers emerge not from what pure numbers do
but from where the manifest
(which is non-linear)
finds it’s norm

what did Alejandro say
I wasn’t listening closely
something about connecting and belonging
flowing from a nurturing mother
but if mother is not nurturing I said
then ones default is need
there are ways he said
with a confidant smile
and the heavens gently shifted
