on the subway
an angular face
and the blue light played on it
it wasn’t beautiful
but God it was gorgeous
reading eight pages of double spaced type
no one writes a personal letter in double spacing
but she read and reread
on the border of tears
didn’t get off at my stop
so I’ll never know

I.
I want to build a monument to me
I want to build it so all the world can see
like the Saracens’ towers on the Amalfi coast
stones or words cobbled to endure
a monument to the substantiality
of these flickering leaves
II.
here I am left behind by all the ghosts
and you
in the corner stands the elephant you left me
black
porcelain
cause I [...]
With words… to grab epiphany
With words before and aft
she stood before the academy.
I did not know her answers.
I still don’t
He’d waxed the surface
and therefore couldn’t stick the ink
I’d wonderer if it needs words
in the corner
I stand before the academy, transparent,
shading into the wood.
The community looked through me,
sightless I marshaled my thoughts,
afraid of thoughtlessness

this is for Jesus
caused nobody else is listening
Jesus by default
halfway to Calvary
waiting on the end of days
or the jackpot
that’s the Mona Lisa
inscrutable smile
ease of days
Grace
what passeth all understanding
but comforts my confusion
waiting on the end
for here are the empty nights
that follow the lonesome days
they cover the loathsome ways
of the enterprise
did the Lord give [...]
The dove in the background,
ah, you can’t see it.
It’s hovering on the plane of
what’s going on here.
The dove in the background
is our certificate of suchness.
And the void in the foreground
is the world.
