Tony

Tony Gouch the good hearted
it’s thirty years or more
since I saw or thought of Tony Gouch
and here’s his ghost
walking in the door
”You remind me of a friend,” I say
”Ah. People find I look like my father,
John Brown, the poet.”
no, it’s Tony, I think,
the good hearted
gone
and this
this is just an incompleted thought
youth

Michael John’s gone
bustled his way through life
out the door
left what impression?
told me he wrote thirty plays
produced!
had thirty plats produced
and a grant here and there
left a marriage
left a child
threw his oats
loud and wild
indeed Michael John was the loudest man
I ever know
in your face
in the face of the whole mothering room
he’s made me cringe

I’m turning into a ghostship
uninhabited
how many decades ago
I remember panting for Adrianne
Adrianne Jeff and I
smoking the light fantastic
I don’t remember the room
just the feeling of gloom
an impression of cloth
purple and indigo
the dawn not far off
Jeffery snoring in the corner
I’ll remember this Adrianne said
This room. This… This nothing much
a keepsake
we waited on the morn
